Bulgarian-born artist Christo, best known for wrapping buildings and famous landmarks in fabric or plastic, has died at his home in New York, aged 84.

He passed away of natural causes on Sunday, according to a statement posted on the artist's official Facebook page.

Influential contemporary artist Hristo Vladimirov Javacheff "Christo" passed away of natural causes at the age of 84 in New York, his representatives announced little before midnight on May 31. "Christo lived his life to the fullest, not only dreaming up what seemed impossible but realizing it," his office said.

Christo, known for massive, ephemeral public arts projects died on May 31 at his home in New York. He was 84.

His death was announced on Twitter and the artist's web page. No cause was given.

Bulgarian-born artist Christo and his homeland are eventually to meet after 57 years - not personally, though.

RT reported on Wednesday of new footage showing Berlin in the aftermath of World War II.

The video, filmed in July 1945, shows famous landmarks like the Brandenburg Gate and the Reichstag in ruins as ordinary Berliners going about their daily lives.
