Serbia and Montenegro’s Strongman Leaders United in Self-Interest
Since December last year, when Montenegro adopted its controversial law regulating freedom of religion, the country has been caught up in an ongoing crisis that has sparked street protests and caused serious tensions between the Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro and its supporters on one side and the ruling Democratic Party of Socialists led by President Milo Djukanovic on the other.
Montenegro Govt, Serbian Church, Seek Dialogue on Religion Law
As protests continue in Montenegro over the recently adopted freedom of religion law, the government and Serbian Orthodox Church have both called for talks on resolving the dispute.
Police beat up Bishop of Serbian Orthodox Church (SPC)
"Bishop and some of worshipers were knocked to the ground and beaten with batons and feet. Two believers were also injured trying to protect him. One had a broken hip and another a collarbone and they were hospitalized at the Pljevlja hospital", it is said in the Metropolitanate of Montenegro and the Littoral.
Serbian Church Urges Montenegro NATO Referendum
The Serbian Orthodox Church in Montenegro said that it was its "pastoral and civic" duty to ask for a referendum on NATO membership - a call which echoed demands made by Russian politicians and clerics after the Western military alliance invited Podgorica to join last month.

Selakovic to visit Montenegro
BELGRADE - Serbian Justice Minister Nikola Selakovic will begin his two-day visit to Montenegro on Monday, during which he will sign the annex to the Memorandum on Cooperation between the two countries' Justice Ministries with a view to improving and intensifying the cooperation between the two institutions.
