While breaking an unusual almost four-day long silence following the June 7 parliamentary election with a public address, President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an cast himself in the role of a wise statesman, as he urged all political players in Turkey to leave aside their egos and prioritize the country?s interests with common sense.

As scenarios for Turkey?s next coalition government fly around, the political parties are also in a process to assess the results of the June 7 election and working on strategies for the future.

Turkish President Tayyip Erdo?an, not Prime Minister Ahmet Davuto?lu, made the first political move after the Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) lost its parliamentary majority in the recent election, meeting with Deniz Baykal, the former head of the social democratic Republican People?s Party (CHP) on June 10.

A voluntary group which worked to ensure vote security during the June 7 general election in Turkey compared its election results with the results released by the Turkish Supreme Election Board (YSK) and announced the number of false votes given for each party.

Dr. Aykan Erdemir, a former member of the Turkish parliament from 2011 to 2015, has joined the Foundation for Defense of Democracies (FDD) as a non-resident fellow, the foundation announced in a written statement on June 9.

The name of a street in the Aegean province of Ayd?n has been changed from Kenan Evren Street to Erdal Eren Street to honor a 17-year-old high school student who was executed following the 1980 Turkish military coup led by Kenan Evren.

Shortly after unofficial results of Turkey's general election were announced, a majority of voters told a poll that they would still vote for the same party, though there is a slight increase in the Justice and Development Party's (AKP) vote and a slight decrease in the votes of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP). 

Unofficial consultations between the ruling and the main opposition parties have begun to test the waters as to whether the two bitter political rivals can form Turkey's next government. 

What was the message of the electorate? It was obvious for many people, while many others have been still trying to figure it out. After all, it was not an easy assessment to make, particularly for those who lost the election.
