The leaders of six Turkish opposition parties will meet today to announce their joint proposal for the return of the parliamentary system and a road map explaining how it will be implemented if they come to power in the next elections.

Main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has urged the Turkish government to preserve the Montreux Convention during the recent escalation between the West and Russia in Ukraine.

The opposition alliance is drawing a new road map for Turkey, with democracy and justice being a common goal, the leader of the Republican People's Party (CHP) has said.

The leaders of six opposition parties are committed to resolving all the problems of Turkey with the spirit of democracy and justice, the main opposition leader has said, recalling they will come together again on Feb. 28.

Idris Sahin, deputy chair of the DEVA Party, told BIRN the meeting on Saturday was "extremely important for building future of our country and agreeing on how to have a parliamentary democracy".

The leaders of six Turkish opposition parties held their first meeting on Feb. 12 to discuss the results of an ongoing joint work to introduce a "strengthened parliamentary system" if they come to power in the next elections.

The ruling People's Alliance, made up of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) , has strongly criticized main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu who declared that he won't pay his electricity bills until the recent hikes are withdrawn.

The Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) has reiterated its loyalty to the People's Alliance with the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) as well as the executive-presidential system, its leader Devlet Bahçeli has said, underlining once again that the elections will take place as scheduled in June 2023.

"I think there will be an election in the fall," he said, speaking to TV100 broadcaster on Feb. 4.
