Greek April retail sales fall 2.7 pct, led by department stores, foods

Greek retail sales by volume declined 2.7 percent in April compared to the same month last year after an upwardly revised 5.0 percent rise in March, statistics service ELSTAT said on Friday.

Retail sales were led lower by department stores, food and beverages, pharmaceuticals and cosmetics, the data showed.

Greek retail sales by volume rose 4.6 percent in March compared to the same month last year after an downwardly revised 3.1 percent decline in February, statistics service ELSTAT said on Friday.

Retail sales were led higher by fuels, lubricants, supermarkets, furniture and household appliances.

Supermarkets see Easter turnover strengthen on a yearly basis

Greek retail stores may have been disappointed with their revenues this Easter, but supermarkets saw a significant increase in turnover over the holiday period, according to Nielsen figures.

Total sales at supermarkets across Greece in the runup to Easter (April 22-27) registered 8.8 percent growth, with fresh products jumping 12.2 percent from the Holy Week of 2018 (April 2-7).

February retail sales fall 3.3 pct led by department stores

Greek retail sales by volume fell 3.3 percent in February compared to the same month last year after an upwardly revised 3.2 percent decline in January, statistics service ELSTAT said on Thursday.
