Rodopi: Streets flooded and landslides were caused by heavy rain

Roads flooded roads in many areas of the municipality of Iasmos in Rodopi due to torrential rain in the afternoon hours of Friday 13 September. Landslides have also occurred.

The local website xronos.gr notes that few anti-flood works have been carried out, which are not able to limit the flooding.

High fire risk forecast for Sunday in five regions

Greek authorities have issued a fire hazard warning for five regions on Sunday, as high temperatures continued to spark wildfires in several parts of the country.

According to the prediction map published by the Civil Protection Agency, the regions are considered to be at very high risk of wildfires, ranking at Level 4 (orange) out of a maximum of 5.

Wildfire breaks out near Salmoni village in Rhodope

A wildfire broke out near the village of Salmoni in the Rhodope regional unit of northeastern Greece on Friday.

The blaze is currently burning through low vegetation in the plain area and is being tackled by 30 firefighters with nine fire engines, along with several volunteers. Their efforts are supported by five water-dropping planes and two helicopters.

From yesterday afternoon at 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. today, 44 fires have occurred, of which 33 were immediately treated at their initial stage, while firefighters are treating 11 more.

Fires in Keratea, Andros, and Rodopi brought under control

The Keratea area currently has no active front, while the fire in Rodopi has only a few small active spots.

The mayor of Sapes, Apostolos Ioannou, stated on ERT that at one point on Saturday, the fire approached the settlement of Asketes, but ultimately the residents did not need to evacuate because the waterbombers managed to keep it at bay.
