Roads flooded roads in many areas of the municipality of Iasmos in Rodopi due to torrential rain in the afternoon hours of Friday 13 September. Landslides have also occurred.

The local website xronos.gr notes that few anti-flood works have been carried out, which are not able to limit the flooding.

A very high risk of fire (risk category 4) is predicted on Monday in four regions of Greece, according to the Fire Risk Prediction Map issued by the Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection.

Four human traffickers, three foreigners and one Greek, were arrested on Saturday in the northern regions of Rhodope and Evros.

Police from the Rhodope and Alexandroupolis departments made the arrests.

Greek authorities have issued a fire hazard warning for five regions on Sunday, as high temperatures continued to spark wildfires in several parts of the country.

According to the prediction map published by the Civil Protection Agency, the regions are considered to be at very high risk of wildfires, ranking at Level 4 (orange) out of a maximum of 5.

A wildfire broke out near the village of Salmoni in the Rhodope regional unit of northeastern Greece on Friday.

The blaze is currently burning through low vegetation in the plain area and is being tackled by 30 firefighters with nine fire engines, along with several volunteers. Their efforts are supported by five water-dropping planes and two helicopters.

From yesterday afternoon at 6:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. today, 44 fires have occurred, of which 33 were immediately treated at their initial stage, while firefighters are treating 11 more.

The Keratea area currently has no active front, while the fire in Rodopi has only a few small active spots.

The mayor of Sapes, Apostolos Ioannou, stated on ERT that at one point on Saturday, the fire approached the settlement of Asketes, but ultimately the residents did not need to evacuate because the waterbombers managed to keep it at bay. 

Turkish media are prominently covering the Party of Friendship, Equality and Peace, representing mostly the Muslim minority in Greece's northeast.

During the night, there will be scattered clouds, predominantly significant over Eastern Bulgaria, with no precipitation expected. Conditions will remain relatively calm, with minimum temperatures ranging between 6° and 11°, while in Sofia, temperatures will hover around 6°.

The meteorological outlook for January 6 predicts scattered clouds across Bulgaria, with increasing cloud cover by evening, accompanied by rain in the southern regions and the Rhodope Mountains. Expect light to moderate south-southwesterly winds, occasionally becoming stronger in the Danubian Plain. Temperatures will range from 10C to 15C, reaching 13C in Sofia.
