The fire that broke out in a forested area on Mount Falakro in Drama, northern Greece, is raging for a second day on Sunday.

The fire service has dispatched 32 firefighters with nine vehicles and one helicopter to the area.

There are occasional rains in the area, helping the efforts of the firefighters.

The operation involves 32 firefighters with nine vehicles and two hiking teams, while a helicopter is carrying out water drops from the air.

The National Meteorological Service Meteo has released satellite images showing the progression of a forest fire burning for 29 days on Mount Orvilos in Serres, Greece, near the Bulgarian border.

The European Copernicus Emergency Mapping Service provided images for the first 27 days.

Panagiotis Karipoglou, president of the Serres Bar Association, will file a complaint with the chief prosecutor over the ongoing fire on Mount Orvilos, near Greece's northern border with Bulgaria.

An image captured by the European meteorological satellite Meteosat-11 shows the extensive dispersion of smoke from the wildfire that has been raging since Sunday afternoon in northeastern Attica.

Processed and distributed by the National Observatory of Athens website, meteo.gr, the image reveals that the smoke has been carried more than 300 km southwest. 

The wildfire in Slavyanka Mountain, which straddles the border between Bulgaria and Greece, has moved to a new location. Today, efforts to control and extinguish the blaze involve firefighters, foresters, and military personnel.

Efforts to battle the three major forest fires in Southwestern Bulgaria, which intensified yesterday, are ongoing. Most resources today will be concentrated on containing the blaze in Pirin above the village of Senokos, where flight equipment will also be deployed.

A wildfire that broke out on July 18 on Mount Orvilos (known as Slavyanka in Bulgaria) along the Greek-Bulgarian border in Serres has been burning for 14 days as of Wednesday.

The situation remains complicated with the fires in Maleshevska Mountain, Strumyani, and Slavyanka Mountain, as both fronts remain active. Commissioner Valentin Vassilev, regional director of the fire department in Blagoevgrad, reported that about 6,000 decares of state forest territory and over 3,000 decares of agricultural land have been affected in Maleshevo Mountain.

For the fifth consecutive day, the fire on the Bulgarian-Greek border remains critical. This morning, firefighters and forest officials ascended Slavyanka Mountain to inspect the clearings made and the areas in Greece where the fire continues to burn.
