Russia 'may expand sanctions against Turkey'

Russian sanctions on Turkey could be extended to the hotel business, timber processing, pilot training and government contracts in any industry, as claimed by Russian newspaper Kommersant on Dec. 16. 

A relevant draft resolution was prepared by Russia's Ministry of Economic Development and forwarded to the cabinet, according to paper, as reported by Reuters.

EU and Russia set to extend sanctions against each other

Russia has announced it will introduce new sanctions targeting EU countries in retaliation for EU's decision to extend its sanctions for another six months.

Minister of Economic Development Aleksei Ulyukayev stated that "Moscow will most likely extend the embargo on food," the RIA news agency reported.

Turkish authorities have detained a female Russian student as she attempted to cross into war-torn Syria, Russian authorities said June 5.

Moscow State University student Varvara Karaulova, 19, was found in the Turkish border town of Kilis after she vanished from the Russian capital, the interior ministry said in a statement.    

Serbia 'Reexporting Polish Apples to Russia'

Russia's food safety watchdog is considering a ban on fruits and vegetables imports from Serbia on suspicions that apples arriving from the country are originally from Poland.

Rosselhoznadzor, cited by Russian news agency RIA Novosti, has voiced its concerns over the sharp increase in apples imports and has demanded consultations with Belgrade over the issue.
