Earthquake of Magnitude 7 Strikes off Papua New Guinea

An earthquake of 7 magnitude struck off Papua New Guinea (PNG) on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) said, but there were no immediate reports of any casualties or damage, reported Reuters. 

The quake, the latest in a series in the region over recent days, struck 180 km west of the town of Rabaul, on New Britain island, at a shallow depth of 10 km, the USGS said.

A 13-centimeter tsunami wave was recorded in the Aegean province of Muğla's Bodrum district early on July 21, following a strong 6.6-magnitude earthquake which its epicenter was 10 kilometers south of Bodrum and 16 kilometers east-northeast of Greece's Kos Island, according to the Kandilli Observatory and the Earthquake Research Institute.

Magnitude 5.3 Quake Hits Southern Japan, no Tsunami Warning

An earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.2 hit the southern Japanese island of Kyushu on Tuesday, but no tsunami warning was issued and there were no immediate reports of injuries or damage, according to Reuters. 

The quake was centered just offshore from the city of Kagoshima, NHK public television said.
