The announcement on Tuesday by Stavros Theodorakis that he will be stepping down from the leadership of the centrist Potami party essentially marks the end of a political grouping that came into being during the crisis but did not apply the same tactics as the other protest parties.

Five years after founding the centre-right To Potami (River) party in March, 2014, Stavros Theodorakis has announced his intention of resigning after the party's disastrous showing of 1.5 percent of the vote in the 26 June European Parliament election.

Though a parliamentary party, it finished in ninth place.

New poll puts ND lead at 6.3 pct versus SYRIZA

Main opposition New Democracy is 6.3 percentage points ahead of ruling SYRIZA, according to an opinion poll carried out by ALCO for broadcaster Open and published on Monday.
The poll found that ND would garner 29.9 percent of the vote if snap polls were held now compared to 23.6 percent for SYRIZA, with socialist KINAL and neo-Nazi Golden Dawn both coming in third with 5.7 percent.

Government wins confidence vote, uproar over level of political discourse

The government handily won a confidence vote this evening (153-136) after a three-day debate which was characterised by ad hominem and vitriolic exchanges between Prime Minister Alexis Tsipras and main opposition New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis.

Centrist Potami to recover parliamentary group status

Greek centrist party To Potami was set to restore its parliamentary group status on Tuesday after two new MPs were sworn in to replace lawmakers who left the party over disagreements regarding the Prespes agreement.
The party had been reduced to three lawmakers after a series of departures in the run-up to the approval of the name deal in Parliament earlier this year.
