The Supreme Administrative Court (SAC) has finally canceled the 20-year-old legally enshrined circumstance, in which the Bulgarian regulatory framework gives different answers to the question of what is the highest speed for driving on a highway. This was reported by news.lex.bg.

Some 2,282 people lost their lives and 291,151 people were injured in a total of 485,048 traffic accidents that occurred last year across the country, the traffic directorate of the police has announced.

A total of 13 people died and another 603 were injured in 511 traffic accidents in December in the Attica, Attica Region traffic police headquarters said on Tuesday.

Of the 603 injured, 13 were severely injured and 590 lightly so.

A total of 86 people were killed in traffic accidents on Slovenian roads in 2022, which is 28 fewer than in 2021. Still, the number of accidents topped 18,000, which is about 1,100 more than the year before, show data from the General Police Administration.

The regional directorate of the Ministry of Internal Affairs in Plovdiv is taking additional measures regarding the effective provision of road safety given the increased car traffic to the Black Sea and other resort centers in the country.

Traffic has been interrupted on specific roads

The increase of speed limits by 10 to 20 kilometers per hour on highways across the country will start as of July 1.

The speed limits on some highways will be increased from 120 to 130 kph and from 120 to 140 kph on other roads. The speed limit will be 140 kph for the highways whose construction works are ongoing and will open to service in the future.

The summer months are the time when traffic on the roads is busier. More people are on the road and cities are filled with tourists. Unfortunately, this is also the time when most accidents occur. For the third consecutive year on June 29 we mark the National Road Safety Day in Bulgaria. The aim is to draw public attention to road safety issues, which are not insignificant.

Ljubljana – Traffic has been slow on Slovenian roads throughout the day and the weekend, with long waiting times at some border crossings with Croatia and Austria. The situation has been further aggravated by an accident on the busy motorway near Postojna, SW, with the travel time prolonged by 90 minutes, according to the Traffic Information Centre.

The government is planning to increase the highway speed limit from 120 kilometers per hour (kph) to 140 kph, Interior Ministry Süleyman Soylu has said, noting that the new speed limit may come into effect in July.
