BELGRADE - Belgrade Mayor Sinisa Mali and the head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport on Monday unveiled an EU support project for Roma employment, which includes training for 100 unemployed Roma who want to start their own businesses.

BELGRADE - Compared to other European countries, Serbia has gone far in implementing the Decade of Roma, Nenad Ivanisevic, president of the government council for improvement of the position of the Roma and the Decade of Roma Inclusion, said on Monday.

The centre-left government of Prime Minister Victor Ponta has approved a new five-year strategy designed to bring about the social inclusion of members of the marginalised Roma community.

It aims to address key issues related to education, health, employment and housing for this impoverished section of society.

BELGRADE - The Roma in Serbia enjoy more rights than in other countries in the region, but the problems of legally invisible persons, poverty and discrimination remain unsolved, said the participants of a National Roma Council conference on Wednesday.
