Roman gate closed after bits of ancient stone fall off

Rome's ruins are such an integral part of the Eternal City that it can be surprising when sometimes bits of them fall off.

Nobody was hurt after a few fragments fell early June 14 morning from the Porta Maggiore gate, whose monumental double arches once provided a gateway through the third-century Aurelian Walls.

Roman-era sculpture seized

A Roman-era sculpture was seized by the provincial gendarmerie command in a car in the western province of Denizli's Sarayköy district. The 15x10-centimeter bronze sculpture, depicting a horse-drawn carriage with a gladiator figure, was delivered to the Denizli Museum Directorate.

Archeologists Find Remains of Roman-era Temple in Egypt

CAIRO -- Egypt says archeologists have uncovered the remains of a temple dating back to the second century.

The Antiquities Ministry said Thursday that the temple, which dates back to the reign of Roman Emperor Antoninus Pius, was found near the Siwa Oasis in the western desert. It includes the foundations of a large limestone building.
