Romanian Penal Code Changes 'Shield Corrupt MPs'
Opposition parties have come out against changes to the criminal code that water down the procedure for approving pre-trial detention of suspects.
Romania's upper chamber, the Senate, on Monday approved an amendment to the code by which the prosecutors will only be able to arrest someone preventively if they have solid evidence that that person has broken the law.

Traian Basescu holds last press conference as head of state on Saturday
President Traian Basescu will hold his last press conference as head of state at the Cotroceni Palace on Saturday.
According to the Presidential Administration, the press conference is scheduled at 18,00. On this occasion, President Traian Basescu is expected to present the report of his activity with Romania's Presidency.
