Deep-sea pipelaying for Black Sea gas begins

Work for deep-sea pipelaying to transfer the natural gas found in the Black Sea has begun, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Fatih Dönmez has said.

"Pipelaying in shallow waters is complete. Works at the energy base 2,500 meters deep in the Black Sea are continuing 24/7," Dönmez tweeted on July 11, with a photo of the Castorone ship, which lays the pipes.

Sakarya Gas Field to get investment of $10 billion

Turkey will provide state support for a major project to develop the natural gas field it discovered in the Black Sea, according to a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette yesterday.

Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) project's investment value will be 145.1 billion Turkish Liras (approximately $10 billion) and the project period will be 11 years, according to the decree.

Turkey lights first gas flare at Sakarya field in Black Sea

Turkey lit the first gas flare in the Sakarya Gas Field located in the Black Sea during a ceremony on July 28.

"Today, for the first time, we will burn off the Black Sea gas that we discovered and started to extract from hundreds of meters underground," said President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, addressing a virtual ceremony to mark the occasion.

Turkey to open 'Black Sea Gas Contract' for future trade by Oct 1

Turkey's gas discovery of 540 billion cubic meters (bcm) with a market value over $100 billion will be open for trading under the name 'Black Sea Gas Contract' in Turkey's future gas market which will launch on Oct. 1 in Istanbul, Mustafa Yılmaz, head of Turkey's Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) told Anadolu Agency on June 9.
