Bulgaria's Average Salary Soars to BGN 2,000 in Q3 2022
Bulgaria witnesses a notable surge in average salaries, with Ministry of Labour and Social Policy data revealing an upswing in the third quarter of 2022. The report, published on the Ministry's website, showcased an average salary of BGN 2,000, marking a substantial 14.7% increase compared to the previous year.
Greek salaries yet to catch up
The Greek worker is the only one in Europe who still has a lower nominal salary compared to 10 years ago. If we compare it with the pre-bailout levels (before 2010), the losses reach 17% without taking into account any damage caused by inflation.

Bulgaria Breaks Barriers: Average Salary Crosses BGN 2,000 Milestone
For the first time in Bulgaria's economic history, the National Statistical Institute (NSI) has reported that the average gross monthly salary has crossed the BGN 2,000 mark (roughly 1000 Euros). September 2023 recorded an average gross monthly salary of BGN 2,072, marking a significant increase compared to July (BGN 1,973) and August (BGN 1,957) of the same year.

The government announced new tax measures for the self-employed on Tuesday with the aim of cracking down on tax evasion, which is estimated to exceed 10 billion euros per year.

Stricter rules for self-employed
The government announced on Tuesday that as of this year self-employed professionals will be presumed to earn a minimum of 10,920 euros, which under certain conditions will reach €50,000, and will be taxed accordingly through the declarations to be submitted in 2024.

The minimum wage in Croatia will increase by 20% from the New Year - the first increase since the country adopted the euro as its main currency at the start of the year.
The government in Zagreb decided on Wednesday that the minimum monthly salary for 2024 will be 840 euros gross and 677 euros net.
Salaries rise to 3.000 EUR: Employers ready to pay dearly
For the positions listed, employers offer maximum monthly salaries ranging from 1,000 to even 3,000 euros. The significant demand for specific professions coupled with a shortage of labor force has caused significant shifts in the job market, experts say.

The Bulgarian Parliament finally approved the 2023 Budget in a meeting that started at 9 a.m. yesterday and lasted almost 21 hours.
The financial framework is calculated at a deficit of three percent - on an accrual basis, with the preservation of a large part of the originally proposed capital program.
Civil servants to get a raise
The new salary system for civil servants to be activated from January 1, 2024, provides for a horizontal increase of 60-70 euros for the 660,000 public sector employees.
According to Finance Ministry officials, it includes fundamental changes in the salaries of civil servants, with raises and the reinforcement of special salaries, especially for those in positions of responsibility.
