Trade Unions Expert: 71% of Bulgarians Live with Income below Minimum Standard

Тhe economist, Lyuboslav Kostov, from the Confederation of Independent Trade Unions of Bulgaria (CITUB) commented on the recently released data that a family of four needs BGN 581.31 per person per month for a decent standard of living. He stated that 71% of the Bulgarians receive income below the minimum standard of living if the statistics are realistic.

MPs' Salary to Increase to BGN 3540

MPs' salary will  increase by about BGN 300 to BGN 3540, which is a consequence of the increase in the average wage in the public sector in Bulgaria. According to the National Statistical Institute, it was 1180 BGN in December.

According to Parliament's Rules of Procedure, parliamentary wages are three times the average in the public sector in the last month of the previous quarter.

Civil servants prepare for earnings increases

The end of the freeze on salaries that was introduced in 2015 will entail raises in civil servants' earnings from this year and an additional cost to the state coffers amounting to 143 million euros.

A circular issued by the Finance Ministry clarifies that the suspension of salary increases for all civil servants ended on December 31, 2017.

Seamstresses from Dupnitsa Protest Because of Unpaid Wages

The seamstesses who work in a shoe factory in Dupnitsa made a protest against unpaid wages. They have not received their monthly wages for December and January.

Average net monthly salary in Serbia EUR 400

Average gross salaries and wages paid in Serbia in November amounted to RSD 65,609 (EUR 550) - RSD 47,575 (EUR 400) net.

Compared to October, this was an increase of 1.6 percent in nominal and real terms, while average net salaries and wages increased by 1.5 percent both in nominal and real terms, the Statistic Office (RZS) announced.
