Teknofest, Türkiye's largest aerospace and technology festival, has started in the northern province of Samsun, already attracting large crowds on the first day of the event.

Teknofest, which will last until Sept. 4 this year at Çarşamba Airport, will host numerous competitions, workshops and seminars.

Locals have been holding a vigil following an attack on a statue of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of the country, in the Black Sea province of Samsun where he began the Turkish War of Independence in 1919.

Continuing its preparations for the new art season, the Samsun State Opera and Ballet (SAMDOB) is getting ready to meet its audience with the first ballet premiere of the season.

The Bandırma Ferry Virtual Museum, realized with the cooperation of Samsun Metropolitan Municipality and Sabancı Foundation, will be opened to visitors on the 102nd anniversary of the arrival of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of modern Turkey, in the northern province of Samsun, regarded as the beginning of the Turkish War of Independence.

Archaeological excavations that have been carried out in the 2,300-year-old Kurul Castle in the Black Sea province of Ordu have unearthed the 2,100-year-old the Kybele Statue, as well as three other big statues and other 2,000 historical artifacts.

The museums in Turkey's heartland Anatolia that were witnesses to the Turkish War of Independence take visitors on a journey to the past.
