Steve Hanke: Keep your Savings in BGN when the Euro is Weak

"After the collapse of the euro, it is best for Bulgarians to keep their savings in BGN". The advice comes from Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore professor of applied economics Steve Hanke. He told Nova TV that the imposition of sanctions on Russia actually reflected much worse on Europe. In his words, "they have proved to be a suicidal act for the European economies".

Turkish economy minister defends predecessor Çağlayan over Iran sanctions charges

Economy Minister Nihat Zeybekci claimed on Sept. 7 that his predecessor Zafer Çağlayan, charged in the United States with conspiring to evade U.S. sanctions against Iran, has "done nothing to harm his country."

"Çağlayan did not do anything against Turkey's interests," Zeybekci told reporters. 

Russian sanctions on Turkey to have limited effect: EBRD

The effect of sanctions imposed on Turkey by Russia will be limited, the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) said on Dec. 7.

The Russian sanctions were imposed after a fighter jet which had violated Turkish airspace was shot down on Nov. 24. Moscow later announced it was a Russian aircraft.

Montenegro Woos EU by Matching Sanctions

Montenegro has expanded the list of countries against which it has an arms embargo, allying itself further with the EU, which it hope to join.

A government document, which BIRN has seen, shows that the list of countries against which the sanctions have been imposed to include Belarus, North Korea, Iran, Iraq, Lebanon, Afghanistan, Egypt, Somalia and Zimbabwe.
