Bulgaria: Galloping Inflation - What Foods Have Become More Expensive and how Much

Foods prices are skyrocketing and break all records. In the latest news release of the State Commission on Commodity Exchanges and Markets (CFSBT) 37 observed products 26 have become more expensive, 9 are now cheaper and two are unchanged. In doing so, the committee only monitors wholesale prices, which are averaged for the country.

While during the Covid-marked 2020 we stayed more at home and walked mainly to the refrigerator and back, it turned out that we had been eating record-expensive foods. The analysis of wholesale prices of staple groceries: sugar, flour, oil, rice and pulses scored an year-on-year increase, with the annual averages for most of them being the highest for the period 2015 - 2020.

Prices of Bulgarian Meat Products Rose by Almost 15%

Prices of Bulgarian kolbasi (meat products) go up. Prices have jumped by 10-15% since January. This is indicated by the manufacturers' data. And the forecasts are that prices will continue to go up until the end of the year.

The reason for this is the increase in raw meat used in production by nearly 35%. Its price will continue to grow in the European market in the coming months.

In cooperation with the Thessaloniki Municipality, the Hellenic-German Chamber of Commerce and Industry is holding a Christmas bazaar inspired by German holiday traditions on Saturday, December 15. There will be snacks (with plenty of sausages), mulled wine and traditional German music, along with a Weihnachtsmarkt. The event is open to the public from noon to 9 p.m.
