With Istanbul grappling with a worsening water crisis due to drought, the water levels in three out of the ten dams supplying water to the country's largest city have plummeted dangerously, falling nearly 3 percent, according to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ).

Water levels in the dams of Istanbul, Türkiye's largest city, have dropped critically, according to recent data released by the city's water and sewerage body İSKİ.

The data indicated that the overall storage rate of Istanbul's dams stood at a mere 20.36 percent, the lowest value recorded in the last 10 years.

As the relentless heatwave grips the country, Istanbul is facing a critical situation in terms of water supply, with the water level in dams dropping to its lowest level in the past nine years, according to data from the Istanbul Water and Sewerage Administration (İSKİ).

A drop in rainfall has led to a decline in water levels in dams supplying water to Istanbul, Turkey's most populous province.

The dams held the lowest water level in the past 10 years as of Nov. 22, at 26.34 percent, Demirören News Agency reported.

Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu on Dec. 25 outlined 15 reasons to oppose the planned Kanal Istanbul project.
