İzmir, Thessaloniki to connect with new ferry line

Turkey and Greece are working on a new ferry line between Thessaloniki and İzmir which is expected to set sail in early 2017, drawing the countries closer together in the process. 

Thessaloniki Mayor Yiannis Boutaris, who has been enthusiastic in encouraging Turks to visit his city, was in Ankara for talks on the ferry line project that will carry both trucks and passengers. 

National day commemorations will not be postponed, Turkish interior minister says

The anniversary of the country's founding, Oct. 29 Republic Day, will be marked, while the commemoration of the death of the founder of the Turkish Republic, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, on Nov. 10 will not be postponed, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu announced on Oct. 19.

Turkish Constitutional Court rejects CHP's appeal to annul decree laws

The Constitutional Court has rejected the main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP)'s appeal for the annulment of decree laws issued by the government since the declaration of a state of emergency after the failed July 15 coup attempt.

The court rejected the appeal on the grounds of non-competence.

The government should reveal the roots of the Fethullahist Terror Organization's (FETÖ) infiltration into state institutions, main opposition Republican People's Party (CHP) leader Kemal Kılıçdaroğlu has said, claiming that the extension of the state of emergency aimed to obscure the "political links" behind the Gülen movement's power grab.
