Two arrests in northern Greece over weapons, antiquities

A 60-year-old man has been arrested in Edessa, in northern Greece, after police say they raided and confiscated dozens of guns and ammunition found at his home. Investigators say the man, whose name has not been made public, had six assault rifles with three cartridges, five handguns with six cartridges, one revolver and more than 1,800 rounds. He is facing a list of weapons charges.

Civil servants walk off the job as court hears appeal against evaluation

Civil servants walked off the job on Friday morning as the Council of State, the country's highest administrative court, started hearing an appeal by their union, known by its Greek acronym ADEDY, against a public sector evaluation scheme that the government has pledged the troika to undertake as part of a broader streamlining of the public sector.

Getting a new Greek ID card just got a lot faster

A scheme allowing police precincts to issue new identity cards on the spot was implemented on Tuesday.

Officers have direct online connections to the numerous government departments that are able to confirm an applicant’s details.

Therefore, applicants only need to bring two photographs and a witness with them.

Truck With BG Registration Kills 4, Injures 30 In Pileup Near Thessaloniki

A TIR truck with Bulgarian registration plates, driven by a Romanian citizen, caused a pileup, killing four and injuring 30 at the Thessaloniki - Veria highway in Greece, reports the Bulgarian National Radio.

More than half of those injured are in serious condition.

According to the reports, the police arrested the Romanian driver as he was trying to escape the accident site.
