The Septemvri-Dobrinishte railway ranked among the top ten of the best scenic rail journeys in Europe by the prestigious British newspaper The Guardian, trip.dir.bg reported.

Several other countries such as Finland, the Czech Republic, Germany, Spain, Ireland, Luxembourg, France and Switzerland are also included in the ranking.

Prime Minister Borissov Inspected the Pazardzhik Station's Reception Building

Prime Minister Boyko Borissov made an inspection of the Pazardzhik station's reception building. It is financed under the Operational Program "Transport" amounting to BGN 3.63 million, of which BGN 3.085 million are from the EU. Pazardzhik Station was completed in 9 months from January to September 2014. Before the start of the project, 231,000 passengers a year passed through the station.

Many people gathered in the town of Septemvri on Wednesday to celebrate with a special folklore programme the 70th anniversary of the only operating narrow-gauge railway in Bulgaria.

Bulgaria's only operating narrow-gauge railway runs between Septemvri and the town of Dobrinishte, which is located near the ski resort of Bansko.

Bulgaria Narrow-Gauge Train 'Could Face the Axe'

A narrow-gauge train in Southwestern Bulgaria "is a lifeline for surrounding villages, but could face the axe," Channel News Asia warns in a report.

This happens as Bulgaria's state railways, hobbled by "corruption and mismanagement," are seeking to modernize a network mired "in losses and debt", according to Channel News.
