Serres: 60-year-old woman in jail for shooting a policeman when they tried to cut off her electricity

A 60-year-old woman, fired a shotgun to thwart a DEDDIE check for electricity theft in a village of Serres. She was sentenced to a total of 5 years imprisonment, a sentence which the court did not suspend or commute, but decided to serve.

15-year-old driver dies following accident in northern Greece

A 15-year-old who was critically injured in a car accident in Serres, northern Greece, died on Sunday morning.

According to public broadcaster ERT, the accident occurred at 9 a.m. on Sunday on a provincial road when the vehicle, for reasons yet to be determined, veered off course and collided with a light pole.

Border security upgrade

Citizen Protection Minister Michalis Chrysochoidis visited Serres in northern Greece on Saturday to focus on infrastructure upgrades at the Promachonas border crossing.

Eight Romanian soccer fans jailed by Serres court

Eight Romanian soccer fans arrested just after they crossed the border into Greece have been sentenced to 30 days' imprisonment by a court in Serres under fan violence laws.

The period of jail time is mandatory under the new laws and cannot be appealed. The jailed Steaua Bucharest fans can, however, the remainder of their 18-month sentence.

14-year-old arrested for school arson in northern Greece

A 14-year-old is accused of starting a fire on Sunday night at a primary school in Neo Souli, Serres, northern Greece.

The fire cause extensive damage to the roof of the building.

Charges were filed against the minor for the crime of arson, while his parents were also arrested for neglecting the supervision of a minor.

Satellite image reveals extensive smoke dispersion from Attica wildfire

An image captured by the European meteorological satellite Meteosat-11 shows the extensive dispersion of smoke from the wildfire that has been raging since Sunday afternoon in northeastern Attica.

Processed and distributed by the National Observatory of Athens website, meteo.gr, the image reveals that the smoke has been carried more than 300 km southwest.
