Missing Serres woman found dead

A 61-year-old woman from Serres that had been missing since July 30 was found dead on Friday. The body was located by a local near a stream in the area. Six firefighters and two vehicles retrieved the woman's body.

According to the Hellenic Police, there is no evidence of foul play in the death of the woman, who suffered from dementia.

Tourist bus from Bulgaria destroyed by fire; no injuries

A tourist bus from Bulgaria was completely destroyed on Thursday by fire that broke out while travelling on a secondary road in the region of Serres, in northern Greece. 

The driver immediately stopped the bus and passengers disembarked safely, state run broadcaster ERT reported. It was not immediately lear what caused the fire. 

Former transport minister Karamanlis set for re-election

Kostas A. Karamanlis, who resigned as transport minister following the tragic train collision in Tempe in February, appears to be on track for re-election as an MP in Serres, northern Greece.

According to the latest data from the Interior Ministry, with the majority of votes counted, New Democracy is leading in Serres, a five-seat constituency, with just under 47 percent of the vote.
