Kozani bridge opens again to traffic after repairs

The Servia Bridge in Kozani, northern Greece, one of the longest in the country, was reopened to motorists on Saturday after undergoing crucial repairs.

According to state broadcaster ERT, while cars and other vehicles are allowed to use the 1.37-kilometer high bridge that connects the towns of Kozani and Servia, trucks of 3.5 tons and over are banned due to structural concerns.

Servia bridge closes for at least a month over safety concerns

The Servia traffic bridge in western Macedonia has been closed for at least a month amid concerns over its stability.

The decision was taken by Regional Governor Giorgos Kasapidis following the recommendations of experts who found that cracks in the pylons of the 47-year-old bridge are widening, raising the risk of a possible collapse.

A hang glider participates in the 32nd Panhellenic Hang Gliding Championship, which started on Saturday in Old Kastania, in the Municipality of Servia-Velvento, northern Greece. Around 40 of Greece's best hang gliders are competing daily. The championship is co-organized by the Hellenic Aeronautical & Airsports Federation and the Municipality of Servia-Velvento.
