Tourism: Over 50,000 new jobs created
Speaking at the first open conference of the Confederation of Greek Businessmen’s Tourist Accommodations, held on the sidelines of the Expo Hotel at the Tae Kwon Do stadium, President of the Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE) Andreas Andreadis pointed out that the 2016 season had ended with a rise of 1.5 million tourist arrivals, the total of which amounted to 25 million.

UK bookings show small rise for now

SETE: Investments worth 6.5bln Euros needed over next 5 years
The tourism industry has the ability to contribute 43 billion euros to Greece’s GDP by 2021, creating 1 million new jobs directly or indirectly linked to the industry, according to data presented at a conference organised by Greek Tourism Confederation (SETE), Tuesday.
Tourists may reach 35 mln by 2021
Greece can expect to receive about 35 million holidaymakers in 2021, while its direct tourism revenues are projected to range around 19-20 billion euros in that year, not including revenues from transport services, according to the latest study by consulting firm McKinsey and the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE).

Greek tourism's bid to bag last-minute bookings sends arrivals higher
The discounts and special packages that Greek tourism enterprises offered foreign markets to make the most of last-minute bookings, combined with big drops experienced by rival destinations, such as Turkey, led to an increase in air arrivals for Greece in the first nine months of the year, according to the Association of Hellenic Tourism Enterprises (SETE).
September arrivals hugely boost Greek tourism, numbers show
According to data released by the Greek Tourist Organisation (SETE), international arrivals to Greek airports “soared” in September, recording a 15% rise compared to last year.
French students' Little Odyssey takes in Corinth Canal
Three French law students from Sete in southeastern France are seen canoeing in the Corinth Canal, which separates the Peloponnese from mainland Greece, Friday. The students are on the final leg of a canoeing trip to Istanbul which they have dubbed L'Odyssette (The Little Odyssey). The route from the coastal village of Sete to Istanbul covers around 7,000 kilometers.
Gloomy prospects for tourism
Following the year-on-year drop in travel receipts over the first seven months of 2016 and the expected decline of 25 percent in hotel enterprises' net results, there are ominous signs for the industry next year too, according to Greek hoteliers.
