Economic freedom and violence against women top Turkey?s women?s issues, according to a survey released by daily Hürriyet on the occasion of March 8, International Women?s Day.

The Family and Social Policies Ministry is preparing to launch a new national action plan to fight violence against women, amid increasing public awareness of the issue.

Turkish public officials have engaged in a blame game over the state-run violence monitoring and prevention centers, revealing how a system created to prevent women from being victimized has been failing to do so.

A family of three have been accused of keeping a 30-year-old woman in their Thessaloniki apartment against her will and forcing her to have sex with men for money.

The three accused are a 38-year-old man, his 35-year-old wife and their 19-year-old son.

The victim is aged 30.

All four are from Bulgaria.
