Türkiye now eyeing large shale gas reserves

Türkiye, which has been working to reduce its dependency on imported energy, is now turning to extract large shale gas reserves estimated at 679 billion cubic meters.

As part of its efforts to diversify its energy resources, the country has already discovered 710 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea and millions of barrels of oil in the southeastern Gabar region.

Argentina to ease exchange control for oil and gas companies

Argentina on May 24 announced an easing of foreign exchange controls for the shale oil and gas industry in a bid to promote investment and boost production.

In an area known as Vaca Muerta in Patagonia, Argentina has what is considered the second-largest shale gas reserve in the world and the fourth largest of shale oil.

China's national oil corporation, the country's largest oil and gas supplier, discovered a record high of 1.84 billion tonnes of reserves in 2019.

More than 1 million tonnes of oil have been found in the Ordos basin, while over 1 trillion shale gas have been explored in the Sichuan and Tarim basins.

Britain approves gas fracking at north England site

Britain on Oct. 6 approved a shale gas fracking project in the north of England, overruling a local council's decision to prevent the controversial scheme which is also opposed by environmentalists.

Communities Secretary Sajid Javid gave the green light for the drilling of up to four wells by energy group Cuadrilla at the Preston New Road site.
