Türkiye now eyeing large shale gas reserves

Türkiye, which has been working to reduce its dependency on imported energy, is now turning to extract large shale gas reserves estimated at 679 billion cubic meters.

As part of its efforts to diversify its energy resources, the country has already discovered 710 billion cubic meters of natural gas in the Black Sea and millions of barrels of oil in the southeastern Gabar region.

Natural gas imports down 2 percent in April

Türkiye imported 3.98 billion cubic meters of natural gas in April, down 2.1 percent from the same month of 2022, data from the Energy Market Regulatory Authority (EPDK) have shown.

Gas import via pipelines fell nearly 5 percent to 3.28 billion cubic meters, while the country's LNG purchase increased almost 14 percent from April last year to 698,000 cubic meters.

Sakarya Gas Field to get investment of $10 billion

Turkey will provide state support for a major project to develop the natural gas field it discovered in the Black Sea, according to a presidential decree published in the Official Gazette yesterday.

Turkish Petroleum (TPAO) project's investment value will be 145.1 billion Turkish Liras (approximately $10 billion) and the project period will be 11 years, according to the decree.

Total inflow to Turkish gas system up 6.38 pct in 2020

Natural gas inflow to Turkey's gas network saw a year-on-year increase of around 6.38 percent to 50 billion cubic meters (bcm) in 2020, according to data from the Turkish Petroleum Pipeline Corporation (BOTAŞ).

In 2019, around 47 bcm of natural gas was carried through the Turkish natural gas system.

Energy watchdog predicts 52.02 bcm gas consumption in 2020

Turkey's energy watchdog estimates the consumption of 52.02 billion standard cubic meters (bcm) of natural gas in Turkey in 2020, according to an official gazette announcement on Jan. 29.

EMRA's natural gas consumption estimation was nearly 52.13 bcm for 2019 but the authority has not yet announced the actual consumption.
