EU lawmakers back transparency rules for rentals

The European Parliament have approved new data-sharing rules that clamp down on illegal short-term rentals to protect the residents of European cities - many of whom face shortages of affordable housing.

The spread of short-term tourist lets via online platforms such as Airbnb has put pressure on the housing market in many places, as it cuts the availability of long-term rentals.

Rents expected to fall with new Airbnb regulation

New regulations on daily accommodation rentals for tourism purposes, a practice said to be negatively impacting the housing market, will enter into force on Jan. 1, 2024.

The "Regulation on Activities for Renting Houses for Tourism Purposes" is expected to increase the supply of houses available for regular rentals in the market and decrease rent prices.
