Discrimination against China and Chinese people is nothing new - Sinophobia is a well-documented phenomenon that has occurred for centuries.

Last Saturday, a group of Korean tourists enjoying the historic beauty of Istanbul had unexpected trouble. Hundreds of angry protestors that were condemning China?s oppression of Muslim Uighurs, a Turkic people from the Xinjiang region, began harassing the tourists. Luckily the police intervened and no one got hurt, but the tourists were scared.

Many news reports on China?s alleged restrictions on Muslim Uighurs during the holy month of Ramadan do not reflect reality, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdo?an has said, amid anti-Chinese demonstrations by Turkish nationalists over the treatment of the Turkic-speaking, largely Muslim minority in China?s Xinjiang region.
