A wildfire in a deciduous forest near Skala village broke out on 29 March at about 3:30 pm; the fire was caused by human negligence, said the Silistra Directorate of the Ministry of the Interior, quoted by Focus News Agency.

A Greek woman who became an international symbol of solidarity at the peak of the refugee crisis has died and will be buried on Thursday on the island of Lesvos.

Maritsa Mavrapidi was 90 years old, according to local reports.

The Greek coast guard says 30 migrants were plucked from a floundering rubber boat off the coast of Lesvos island in the eastern Aegean in the early hours of Wednesday.

The migrants were safely transferred to Skala Sykamnias, a small seaside village on the northern coast of the island, the coast guard said.

Patmos has grown greener and more beautiful this year, thanks to the initiative of the Green Patmos Team, a student-run group that carried out one of the most extensive tree-planting operations the Dodecanese island has ever seen.

According to local media on the island of Lesvos, international mega star Angelina Jolie will land on the Greek island at 5 pm Tuesday as a UNHCR goodwill ambassador. The actress is expected to arrive in her own private jet and plans to spend time among the refugees, according to local news portal ‘Lesvosnews.gr’.
