Snow fest draws thousands of visitors to Turkey’s northeast

A snow festival in Turkey's northeast was attended by thousands of visitors and locals who had a chance to compete with each other with authentic wooden sleds.

The traditional Geçitli Snow Festival, which was held for the sixth time this year in Turkey's Black Sea province of Artvin's Ardanuç, attracted many visitors, mostly from the surrounding settlements.

Sleigh rides on frozen lake attract visitors

Tourists can ride on sleighs on Turkey's frozen Lake Çıldır up until April.

Located in the northeast on the border between Ardahan and Kars provinces, the second-largest lake in eastern Anatolia becomes ice-covered as temperatures fall below zero.

When its thickness reaches around 40 centimeters (16 inches), fishing enthusiasts break the ice and catch fish like Eskimos.

Romania's largest open-air museum inviting visitors to dog sledding

The ASTRA Museum at Dumbrava Sibiului Forest, Romania's the largest open-air museum, has for the past two days invited visitors to dog sledding trips at the initiative of one of the museum's employees who is passionate about dog-pulling competitions, according to the museum's spokesman, Cosmin Calinescu.

Romania's bobsledders Andreea Grecu and Teodora Andreea Vlad grabbed the gold medal in the two-woman bobsleigh event on Sunday, in the 2019 IBSF Junior World Championships Bobsleigh & Skeleton (Germany). Grecu and Vlad were timed with 1 min 42 sec 85/100, 51 sec 19/100 in the first leg, and 51 sec 66/100 in the second.
