An Early Warning system for Disasters and Accidents is being developed in Bulgaria

Hundreds of residents of Plovdiv and the region received messages yesterday about the earthquake, which occurred around 3:30 p.m. and had a magnitude of about 4.7 on the Richter scale. Today it became clear that the messages were not sent by the authorities in Bulgaria. Google generated them and are only for phones with the Android operating system.

Google fined $162 mn by Indian watchdog over market dominance 

Google has been fined more than $160 million by India's anti-trust watchdog after a probe found the tech behemoth was abusing its commanding position in the local smartphone market.

The company's Android mobile operating system is by far the dominant player in India and is run on 95 percent of all the country's smartphones.

Global smartphone sales have slumped this year amid a "gloomy economic outlook," prompting people to spend money on essentials instead of the latest gadgets, according to a market tracker.    

Smartphone sales in the recently ended quarter were nine percent less than in the same period a year earlier, hitting a low not seen since 2014, according to research firm Canalys.    

Samsung Electronics forecasts 11 pct rise in profits

Samsung Electronics expects operating profits in the second quarter to rise 11.4 percent, the South Korean tech giant said in a statement yesterday, despite ongoing global supply chain woes.       

The world's biggest smartphone maker forecast 2022 second-quarter operating profits of about 14 trillion won ($10.7 billion), up from 12.6 trillion won in the same quarter last year.
