Greece is one of the worst countries in the European Union for a child to live in, as it appears that the youngest citizens pay the highest price for the chronic inadequacies of the state, the low quality of the education system and the health system, as well as the inability of the social protection system to really and effectively support them.

Social Democratic Party (PSD) has launched a petition online by which it asks for the support of the European Parliament to ensure that the European laws in terms of social and medical protection and the rights of the Romanian workers as Romanian citizens are being observed in the European Union.

The government decided on Thursday to extend the furlough until 1 June, with the possibility of maintaining this form of support in areas that will continue to be restricted, depending on the evolution of the epidemiological situation, Deputy Prime Minister Raluca Turcan announced.

In 2018, the average monthly poverty line for the country is 351.11 BGN average per person. The number of persons who are below this line is 1 550.8 thousand representing 22.0% of the population, according to data of the National Statistical Institute. 

In Plovdiv, Vice President Iliana Yotova opened the eighth edition of the European Forum for Social Entrepreneurship.

Approximately 90 experts of the European Union are participating on Monday and Tuesday in the Informal Meeting of the Social Protection Committee (SPC), which takes place in Bucharest, at the Palace of Parliament. "It is a Social Protection Committee. Generally, the discussion revolves around the social assistance policy, cohesion, the European common value and so on.

Guaranteed minimum income will rise to BGN 75 from January 1, 2018, the government decided, reported BGNES.

The new size is BGN 10  more than it is at present. The aim is to improve the social protection system of the most vulnerable groups.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) called on Monday for a change in policy in Greece to boost employment and prevent a social crisis.

In its “Productive Jobs for Greece” study, which was presented in Athens on Monday, the ILO emphasized the problems of long-term unemployment in Greece and that a growing number of Greeks are finding themselves at risk of poverty.

The International Labor Organization (ILO) has voiced its concern about the impact of austerity on social protection, saying that measures aimed at offsetting the effects of the crisis have will have long-term detrimental effects on the bloc's economies.

Some 4 million new unemployed were registered worldwide in 2013 and 3 more million will join them in 2014, according to the annual report of the International Labor Organization.
