Ruling Socialists Defeat Divided Opposition in Albanian Local Polls

The Socialist Party led by Prime Minister Edi Rama is ahead in most municipalities in the country after Sunday's local elections and has already won three, Kamza, Vora and Elbasan, where the voting took place electronically and the Central Election Commission was able to declare the results a few hours after polls closed.

GERB Would Win if elections Were Now - Opinion Poll

The formerly ruling GERB party would win if early elections were held now, as support for There Is Such a People (TISP), the largest parliamentary force, slipped by about 5 percentage points in a month, according to an August 13-22 nationally representative survey among 1,055 people aged 18 or over. It was financed and conducted by bTV and Market Links.

SMER-SD gave way to a four-party, mostly right-wing coalition led by populist Ivo Matovic's OLANO, which more than doubled its vote from 11 per cent to 25 per cent — well ahead of SMER-SD's 18 per cent — with a vague programme almost entirely devoted to dismantling what Matovic claims is a system of corruption built by former premier Robert Fico. 

Serbia's Ruling Party Wins Belgrade Elections

The ruling Serbian Progressive Party won most votes in Sunday's Belgrade City Assembly elections and will most likely continue to run the capital for the next four years, preliminary results show.

Party chief and Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said the party's nominee for the post of mayor would be revealed within 15 days.
