36% of Bulgarian Businesses Frown at Minimum Wage

36% of Bulgarian businesses see the minimum wage as a deterrent to employment, according to a survey requested by the Ministry of Labor and Social Policy.

The biggest share of opponents to the minimum wage was registered in the cities of Montana, Veliko Tarnovo and Kardzhali, where 43% of those polled said it was a deterrent to hiring young workers.

Tax official, accountant caught bribing 80-year-old over business closure

A tax inspector and an accountant were arrested on Thursday on suspicion that they had asked for a bribe to help wind up a company.

The 80-year-old man registered as the firm’s manager informed police that, via the accountant, the official from the Psychico tax office in Athens had demanded 30,000 euros in cash in order to help him resolve his tax issues.

Unemployment Rates in Bulgaria Reach 11.3% in 2013
