Are you fed up with the "news"? Aren't we all? Are you seized every so often by the need to steer clear of television, radio, paper and online news outlets for a good spell? I'm going to assume yes. You are not alone and, judging by what I read in major international newspapers, it is a global phenomenon.

TV channels in Albania have declared their latest election campaign pricelists, with a number of them offering spots for paid appearances on editorial programmes, despite the electoral code explicitly banning broadcasters from running election propaganda as news content.

14 Confirmed Dead in Russia High-Rise Blast
At least 14 people are confirmed dead from the New Year's Eve explosion at a high-rise apartment building in the Russian city of Magnitogorsk, news agencies reported Wednesday.
Citing local emergency officials, the RIA Novosti, TASS and Interfax news agencies said the number of dead had risen to 14 as rescuers pulled more bodies from the rubble of the collapsed building.

Leading Journalists Join Call for EU Copyright Reform
AFP - Leading journalists from more than 20 countries joined a call Tuesday for European MPs to approve a controversial media reform aimed at forcing internet giants to pay for news content.
European Parliament lawmakers return in September to discuss the proposal, a first draft of which was rejected last month after a fierce debate.

Social media has done amazing things for thousands of people. It enabled us to reach further than ever. It enabled us to sell our products, to let the world know what we think, to find peers, and so on. It also enabled news to travel faster. However the speed of travelling doesn't guarantee the quality of the content. Therefore we see lots of fake news around the globe.

Long-form journalism lives -- on mobile
If you thought long-form journalism would die from the shift to mobile news, think again.
A Pew Research Center study released Thursday found consumers spend more time on their phones with long-form news articles than with shorter ones, and that the elusive notion of "engagement" increases with word count.
