For the first time, the 27th Antarctic Expedition will work on seven Bulgarian national projects, Director of the Bulgarian Antarctic Institute Prof. Hristo Pimpirev told Focus Radio.

The new academic year at the oldest university in Bulgaria, Sofia University, was officially opened on 1stof October. This academic year is special for the University of Sofia because it marks 130 years since its establishment.

Bulgarian students won four medals - one silver and three bronze medals at the International Biology Olympiad in the Iranian capital, Tehran.

At a meeting, the Academic Council of Sofia University ''St. Kliment Ohridski'' decided to propose an addition to the proposal for admission of students at the Sofia University during the academic year 2018/2019.

The  project envisages 80 seats in the Medicine specialty of the Medical Faculty of the Sofia University, the press center of the university said.

Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski "occupies 855th place in the University Ranking by Academic Performance (URAP) for 2017/2018. This was announced by the press center of the university.

Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" starts protest action after January 22, if the government does not meet five specific demands of the higher school. This was decided by the Academic Council of the University at an extraordinary meeting on Wednesday. The reason for the protests is the negative attitude of governments in recent years towards the university.

"Bulgarian scientists, supported by the state, recognized the immense importance of Antarctica decades ago," said President Rumen Radev in his address to the members of the 26th Bulgarian Antarctic expedition days before the researchers left for the Bulgarian St. Kliment Ohridski Researchers' center on the Livingston Island.

The new academic year starts at Sofia University. Before the official ceremony, scheduled for 10:00, the rector of Alma Mater Prof. Anastas Gerdjikov and the members of the Academic Council will bring flowers to the monuments of Evlogi and Hristo Georgiev. Official guest to the opening will be President Rumen Radev, reports iNews.
