Turkish developer to invest $260 mln in Sofia project

Turkish developer Garanti Koza will build a 240 million euros ($260 million) commercial and residential complex in Sofia, one of the biggest private-sector property projects in Bulgaria, the company said on July 21.

The Black Sea state needs foreign investment to spur growth and help reduce fiscal deficits that have put pressure on its lev currency peg to the euro.

Uber, the US-based taxi sharing company, will challenge the BGN 100 000 fine imposed by Bulgaria's Commission for Protection of Competition at the Supreme Administrative Court (VAS).

Uber was fined BGN 100 000 over creating unfair competition of regular taxi drivers in Sofia.

NDK Pavement Renovation Reaches BGN 300

The total value of the renovation works taking place near the National Palace of Culture (NDK) continues to grow.

An additional sum of BGN 315,600 will be allocated to the project, as reported by BGNES.

The new portion of the funds will be used for the substitution of the red pavement across the park and all around the building.

A team of Bulgarian archaeologists is pinning its hopes on discovering a host of Roman-era artifacts as excavations are underway under the St Nedelya Square in downtown Sofia.

Those include a statue of Roman Emperor Constantine the Great (306-337 AD), a massive Roman building, and some inscriptions.

The Sofia City Prosecutor's Office has received a signal from competent authorities of the UK and Northern Ireland on account of an ongoing investigation.

The procedure has been opened against Bulgarian citizens involved in organized criminal scheme across London, including smuggling, begging, human trafficking and wire transfers of suspicious funds to Bulgaria.

Bulgarian Police Detains 66 Illegal Immigrants in Downtown Sofia

Bulgarian police officers detained 66 illegal immigrants in downtown Sofia on Monday evening.

The policemen were dispatched after receiving a signal for foreigners having settled in an abandoned building, the press service of the Interior Ministry informs.

Following their inspection, authorities uncovered 35 men, 20 women and 11 children at the address.
