MADRID - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic was ousted in the opening round of the Madrid Open by Romania's Sorana Cirstea 6-4, 6-3 on Sunday.
World number 131 Cirstea will next play Montenegro's Danka Kovinic.

Tennis: Simona Halep returns to third place in WTA rankings
Romanian Simona Halep returned to third place in the world rankings of professional tennis players (WTA), made public on Monday, after playing in the final of the WTA Finals in Singapore.
The first place is occupied by American player Serena Williams, with the second being taken by Russian player Maria Sharapova.

Romanian female tennis player Simona Halep is hanging on to the second position in the latest weekly WTA woman's singles ranking released on Monday, with 6,750 points. Topping the ranking is still Serena Williams of the US, with 9,430 points.

Ana Ivanovic starts off with win at Cincinnati
CINCINNATI - Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic advanced to the second round of the WTA Premier event in Cincinnati after beating Romania's Sorana Cirstea 6-1, 7-5 in the opening round on Monday.
Ivanovic will next play the winner of the all-American clash between Nicole Gibbs and Christina McHale.
