Bojana Jovanovski through to Washington quarter-finals

WASHINGTON - Serbia's Bojana Jovanovski reached the quarter-finals of the Washington WTA tournament early Thursday by beating Sorana Cirstea of Romania 4-6, 7-5, 6-3.

In a bid to reach the semi-finals, Jovanovski will face Marina Erakovic of New Zealand, who beat Shelby Rogers of the United States 6-3, 6-4.

Ivanovic beats Lisicki

STUTGART - Serbian female tennis player Ana Ivanovic scored a successful start at the Stuttgart WTA as she beat Germany's Sabine Lisicki in the Wednesday match, 6-1, 6-3.

In the next match, Ivanovic will cross rackets with Germany's Julia Goerges who defeated Romania's Sorana Cirstea, 6-1, 7-5.

BUCHAREST - The Romanian national women's tennis team took a 1-0 lead over Serbia on Saturday in a play-off tie for remaining in the Fed Cup World Group II.

Sorana Cirstea secured the point by outplaying Ana Ivanovic 2-1, in sets 3-6, 6-1, 6-2.

Simona Halep and Bojana Jovanovski will clash in the other singles match on Saturday.

Bulgaria's top female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova appeared in a glamorous self-designed dress at the official party of the Sony Open tournament in Miami.

The annual event was held at the elite Cavalli Miami night club, and was attended by some of the best female athletes of the sport.
