Prosecutor-general Sotir Tsatsarov told media on Tuesday that Nikolay Malinov has been charged with espionage and that a former senior Russian intelligence officer, Leonid Reshetnikov, has been barred from entering Bulgaria.

Following a documentary entitled "War for Carcasses" by investigative journalist Genka Shikerova, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov has ordered an immediate investigation into the allegations of official misconduct and unfavourable contracts concluded by the Bulgarian Food Safety Agency (BFSA), said the Prosecutor's Office, Focus News Agency Reported.

Another protest against the nomination of Ivan Geshev, nominated by all 11 members of the Prosecutorial Board of the Supreme Judicial Council last Monday, gathered hundreds in front of the court building.

Ivan Geshev is the first nomination for the new Chief Prosecutor. There are 11 people behind his candidacy, including the current Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov, whose term expires in January.

The Plenum of the Supreme Judicial Council will hold a sitting today, July 15, when the procedure for election of the Chief Prosecutor will be opened.

The July Session of the SJC will hold four sessions for the submission of proposals for candidates for the Chief Prosecutor. Proposals can be made by at least three of the members of the Prosecutor's Office and the Minister of Justice.

On July 8, Prime Minister Boyko Borissov met with the owners of Bulgaria's top three football clubs Ludogorets, CSKA-Sofia and Levski to discuss alleged pressure on referees. The meeting was also attended by Interior Minister Mladen Marinov, Prosecutor General Sotir Tsatsarov and Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) President Borislav Mihailov, reports BNT. 

Chief Prosecutor Sotir Tsatsarov is on a visit to neighbouring Serbia where he was admitted by Republican Attorney General Zagorka Dolovac.

Tzatsarov's visit to Belgrade will last for several days.
