Back for an eighth consecutive year, the Aegean Film Festival is taking place on Patmos from July 17 to 22 and Paros from July 24 to 29, hosting more than 70 films, documentaries and shorts by Greek and foreign directors. The program also features specialized workshops, seminars and musical events.
Greek coast guards nab suspected migrant smuggler in Aegean
Greek authorities have arrested a suspected migrant smuggler after a speedboat chase off the Aegean Sea island of Kos, in which coast guards fired warning shots and the suspect rammed a patrol boat.
Exam cheat disqualified in Kos
A 17-year-old girl on the Aegean island of Kos was disqualified on Wednesday from one of her university entrance exams after she was caught with a device in her ear that allowed her to communicate with a relative who was helping her cheat.
The incident took place while she was sitting her history exam.

Migrant smuggler nabbed on Kos island
Port and coast guard authorities on the southeastern Aegean island of Kos on Monday impounded a speedboat that had transported 13 illegal migrants to Greece.
A port authority patrol vessel spotted the speedboat in the sea area of Psalidi and a chase ensued after its skipper refused to comply with instructions to stop.

Santorini museum guard arrested over stolen artifacts
A night guard at the Archaeological Museum of Santorini has allegedly been caught in possession of several items that were stolen from the museum he was supposed to be guarding, the Culture Ministry confirmed on Sunday.
Dozens intercepted at sea
A sailing boat with 73 refugees and migrants on board was intercepted by a coast guard vessel in the sea area between the Dodecanese islands of Leros and Leipsoi in the southeastern Aegean Tuesday.
According to reports, the boat was towed to Leros, while two men, an Italian and a Ukrainian, were arrested on people-smuggling charges.

Cycladic islands hook up to the mainland power grid
As of last Thursday, March 8, the power supply on the Aegean islands of Paros, Antiparos, Naxos, Koufonissi, Schinoussa, Iraklia, Ios, Sikinos and Folegandros comes directly from the mainland grid via an underwater cable from Lavrio in southern Attica.

The union representing hotel workers and servers on Kos in the eastern Aegean reacted on Wednesday to reports that a new resort on the popular holiday island is asking all of its employees to sign individual contracts foreseeing fines in the event of guest complaints.
Investigation under way into drowning of ferryboat passenger
An investigation was being conducted on Wednesday into the circumstances that saw a passenger of the Blue Star Naxos ferryboat fall overboard and drown.
The man, whose age has been estimated at around 60, fell off the ferry into dark and cold waters some 4 nautical miles off the coast of Syros. He was found dead an hour later by the coast guard.
