Strong winds prevent ferries from sailing from capital
Ferryboats were tied up at all three of the capital's main ports on Thursday as strong winds lashed many parts of the country.
There were no sailings from Piraeus, Rafina or Lavrio after the coast guard warned of winds in the Aegean Sea that reached as high as 9 on the Beaufort scale. The Perama-Salamina route remained unaffected, however, and sailings are taking place as scheduled.
Santorini authorities rationing cruise passenger visits to island
An effort to reduce the congestion that occurs on Santorini in the high season when numerous cruise ships and passengers arrive at the same time is in full swing.
The popular Cycladic island will this year be able to host only 8,000 visitors per day, down from 12,000 or more in 2017 and in previous years.

The couple, who are expecting a baby, tied the knot at the town hall of Gythio, a city where the groom is from on Saturday.

Civil protection authorities declared a state of emergency on the small southern Aegean island of Symi on Tuesday after it was struck by torrential rain on Monday night that wreaked widespread damage.

Heavy rain causes serious damage on island of Symi
Local authorities and residents on the island of Symi in the Dodecanese on Tuesday were taking stock of the damage wreaked by heavy rainfall the night before.
The downpour caused serious damage to infrastructure as well as to homes and businesses on the island.

The island of Symi at the mercy of storm “Eurydice”! (VIDEO)
At the mercy of storm “Eurydice” is the island of Symi. Due to the intense phenomena at least 12 cars were washed off to the sea at the island’s port.
According to the island’s mayor, Lefteris Papakalodoukas, another 30 cars have been dragged into the sea at different parts of the island.

Climate change may take a heavy toll on Greek GDP, land
The total reported economic losses caused by weather- and climate-related extremes in the 33 EEA member countries between 1980 and 2016 amounted to more than €450bn, according to a recent study released by the European Environment Agency.
