Turkey is currently hosting more than 3.6 million Syrian refugees, the country's interior minister said on March 31. 

"The number of Syrians under temporary protection in our country is 3,664,873," Süleyman Soylu said, addressing immigration officials in the northwestern Balıkesir province at an annual evaluation meeting.

Greece is pushing migrants back to their deaths, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said on March 18, adding that irregular migrants attacked by Greek coast guards or left at sea are being rescued by Turkish authorities.

A funeral was held on March 14 for Servet Soylu, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu's mother, who died on March 13 at the age of 75 due to heart failure.

She had been treated in a private hospital in Istanbul for a while.

An assassin linked to the ISIL terror group was arrested in northwestern Turkey, the country's interior minister said on Feb. 1.

Minister Süleyman Soylu announced the arrest of the terrorist in a Twitter post, saying the counter-terrorism operation had been successfully held in Yalova province.

A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit the Turkish eastern province of Elazığ on Dec. 27 morning, said the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).

Turkey's interior minister urged the EU on Dec. 21 to hold Greece responsible for its "murders" of asylum seekers.  

"Dear [European Commissioner for Home Affairs] @YlvaJohansson, Torture and inhumane treatment by Greece has now turned into murder. Won't Greece be held responsible for these murders ignored by @Frontex?" Süleyman Soylu said on Twitter.

Turkish authorities have refuted reports of an assassination attempt on Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.

"Such an assassination attempt is out of question," Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu told reporters in parliament.

Turkey has successfully passed the "migration" test by hosting millions of refugees on its soils for years, while even the most developed nations have failed in doing so, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has said at an online opening of the International Migration Films Festival.
