Turkey hosts over 3.6 mln Syrian refugees: Interior minister
Turkey is currently hosting more than 3.6 million Syrian refugees, the country's interior minister said on March 31.
"The number of Syrians under temporary protection in our country is 3,664,873," Süleyman Soylu said, addressing immigration officials in the northwestern Balıkesir province at an annual evaluation meeting.

Deceased mother of interior minister laid to rest
A funeral was held on March 14 for Servet Soylu, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu's mother, who died on March 13 at the age of 75 due to heart failure.
She had been treated in a private hospital in Istanbul for a while.
After a funeral prayer held in the Gaziosmanpaşa Central Mosque following the noon prayer, Servet Soylu was buried in Istanbul's Eyüpsultan Cemetery.

Emergency disaster centers have been established in all of Turkey's 81 provinces and a single radio communication line for separate institutions of disaster management in the country has been set up, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has said.
ISIL assassin caught in northwestern Turkey: Interior minister
An assassin linked to the ISIL terror group was arrested in northwestern Turkey, the country's interior minister said on Feb. 1.
Minister Süleyman Soylu announced the arrest of the terrorist in a Twitter post, saying the counter-terrorism operation had been successfully held in Yalova province.
Major judicial incidents declined in 2020, says minister
A number of judicial incidents, including burglary, femicide, drug crimes, and traffic accidents, have declined, Turkish Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has said.
Nearly 4,890 people were killed in road accidents in Turkey in 2020, down from some 5,473 deaths in 2019.
Magnitude 5.3 earthquake jolts eastern Turkey
A magnitude 5.3 earthquake hit the Turkish eastern province of Elazığ on Dec. 27 morning, said the country's Disaster and Emergency Management Authority (AFAD).
The quake was also felt in Malatya, Adıyaman, Şanlıurfa, Mardin, Batman and Diyarbakır provinces.

Greece should be held responsible for migrant murders: Minister
Turkey's interior minister urged the EU on Dec. 21 to hold Greece responsible for its "murders" of asylum seekers.
"Dear [European Commissioner for Home Affairs] @YlvaJohansson, Torture and inhumane treatment by Greece has now turned into murder. Won't Greece be held responsible for these murders ignored by @Frontex?" Süleyman Soylu said on Twitter.
‘No assassination attempt on Istanbul mayor’
Turkish authorities have refuted reports of an assassination attempt on Istanbul Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu.
"Such an assassination attempt is out of question," Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu told reporters in parliament.
