Interior minister says he resigns from position
Turkey's Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu said on Twitter on April 12 that he was resigning from his post over the implementation of a two-day curfew in major Turkish cities to tackle the coronavirus outbreak.

Erdoğan rejects interior minister's resignation
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has rejected Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu's resignation, according to a statement by the Communications Directorate.
"The resignation of our interior minister has not been accepted by the president, he will continue his duty," the directorate's statement said.

Interior minister accepts criticisms on timing of curfew’s announcement
Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has accepted the criticisms over the timing of the announcement of Turkey's two-day curfew in 31 provinces in an interview with daily Hürriyet.
People flock to stores, bakeries before lockdown
Almost immediately afterward the 48-hour curfew thousands of people in Istanbul, Ankara and other stores flocked to markets and bakeries still open for last-minute shopping on April 10.
Roads in both cities were also full of traffic, with long queues forming outside off-licenses, grocery stores and banks.

80 pct of life stopped in Turkey due to outbreak, says interior minister
Turkish citizens, especially those living in metropolises, have been abiding by the "social isolation" principles laid out by the government, Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has said, adding that almost 80 percent of life "stopped" in Turkey.

Gov’t may seize mask producing plants
Turkey will seize factories of protective mask producers unless they agree to sell those devices to the government or companies, the interior minister has warned.
"We have been trying to deal with this problem for the past two days," Soylu said in an interview on March 22 broadcast live on social media.

Turkey confirms fourth coronavirus death, nearly doubles cases to 359
Turkey confirmed late on March 19 its fourth death related to the coronavirus and the country nearly doubled its confirmed cases to 359, from 191 a day earlier.
Health Minister Fahrettin Koca said on Twitter that an 85-year-old woman died due to the novel coronavirus.
Greece's asylum suspension 'embarrassing': Minister
Greece's decision to suspend new asylum applications for a month is unlawful and shameful, Turkey's interior minister said on March 3.
"According to a statement highlighted by the UNHCR, the 1951 Geneva Convention and the EU refugee law do not allow such a decision, either," Suleyman Soylu said on Twitter.
