International traffic at Athens airport hits all-time high of 2.06 mln in July

A record 2.06 million international passengers passed through Athens International Airport in July.

It is the first time since the airport started operating in 2001 that international passengers have exceeded 2 million. The previous record of 1.96 million had been set in August 2018.

Total passengers in July were 2.98 million, compared to 2.85 million in July 2018.

Piraeus Bank, NBG underwrite loan to extend Athens airport concession

Greece's two largest lenders Piraeus Bank and National Bank said on Thursday they will be the exclusive joint underwriters for a bond loan facility to Athens International Airport (AIA) of up to 665.6 million euros ($742 million).
Proceeds of the loan facility will partly finance a 20-year extension to manage and operate the airport until 2046.

Unidentified body found in Artemida house fire

Rescuers arriving at the scene of a house fire at the seaside resort town of Artemida in east Attica on Thursday found a burnt body, the fire service said in a press release.

The statement said it was not yet clear whether the victim was a man or a woman.
Fifteen firemen with six vehicles were sent at the corner of Pindou and Athens streets to put out the blaze.

Police launch manhunt for Spata burglars

Police on Friday were seeking three armed men who forced their way into a house in Spata, eastern Attica, on Thursday night and threatened an elderly couple and their housekeeper.
The robbers, who had their faces covered, rang the doorbell at around 9.30 p.m. and when the door was opened, barged in and threatened the three victims at gunpoint.
