Knights celebrate NHL crown with night parade

Vegas Golden Knights players showed off the Stanley Cup and celebrated their NHL title on June 17 with about 100,000 supporters in an evening parade along the famed Vegas Strip.

The expansion club captured the trophy after only six seasons with a 9-3 home triumph over Florida on June 13 to claim the best-of-seven championship series four games to one.

Lakers rout Warriors, Heat rip Knicks

Anthony Davis and LeBron James powered the Los Angeles Lakers in a rout of defending champion Golden State on May 6 while Jimmy Butler returned from an ankle injury to spark Miami's romp over New York in the NBA playoffs.

Davis scored 25 points and grabbed 13 rebounds while LeBron James added 21 points to lead the host Lakers over the Warriors 127-97.

Turkish-German academic elected as prestigious German university’s rector

Metin Tolan, a Turkish-origin German physicist, has been elected as the rector of the University of Göttingen, one of the world's leading universities.

The university senate unanimously elected Tolan as rector and the board of trustees of the institution approved the decision, according to a written statement from the University of Göttingen.

Trump selects Dr. Öz to serve on presidential council

U.S. President Donald Trump appointed on Dec. 11 Dr. Mehmet Öz to the President's Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition alongside nearly 30 other individuals for two-year terms. 

Öz is being appointed alongside former New York Yankees closer Mariano Rivera, New England Patriots coach Bill Belichick, and likely baseball hall-of-famer Johnny Damon.

Shared Scooters in Sofia Offer Free Ride on the Election Day

Residents of the capital can reach polling stations on Sunday, using the Lime shared scooters for 15 minutes for free, the company said. The promotion will be valid from 7am until the end of election day.

In order to ride the scooters, users must enter the code in their wallet in the Lime application.
